Tag Archives: create your own wood texture

Jan 11: 366-11 Wood

So, you are a graphic artist, not a photographer.  What do you do to get a realistic wooden texture?  The peeps at Inside Graphics have the answer:  create your own!   Here’s my offering, created while following their directions (with just a couple of variations):

Here’s a close-up detail of the texture in my wood design (but the image above is the one that you’ll want to download, should you decide to give it a try):

I followed the InsideGraphic.com tutorial (you can find it by clicking here) with just a couple of variations.  I created my initial canvas at 300 DPI (instead of the 72 that they used).  My motion blur was set at a distance of 40.  At the end, I added a Sharpen More to pull out the texture just a bit more.   I opened up a lovely Whippet friend from my files that was already extracted from a busy background to show how you can change the look of a photo by changing the backdrop:

It’s not a polished, finished image, but it does illustrate what a different background can offer.  And now you know how to make your OWN wood texture, to boot!

Please do post links to projects where YOU have used this provided texture and tell us how you tweaked it to fit your needs.  Feedback is welcomed! All textures are available for personal or commercial use. They are NOT allowed to be resold or to be claimed as your own.  Just click through for the larger size file, right-click that one and save the texture to your own computer.  My sample uses of the texture are not available for any use.

Now – if you’ve gone wild with a texture and just LOVE it … a small donation showing that love sure would be appreciated (but is not mandatory).   Just go to PayPal.com and send your donation to DogBreedz (at) yahoo.com.  Happy Texturing!
