366-17 Stucco

Another day of experimenting with some of the techniques and methods previously introduced.  And to help you out – here is a stucco wall, with intentionally uneven lighting effects.  Remember – you don’t have to use the full frame to add to a layer of your original image – use your transform tool and resize/move the texture layer until you get the effects you want added to your image – so MANY possibilities!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE stucco walls … their look can change with just a slight switch in lighting angles and there are so many different looks from wall to wall, depending on the knockdown (depth) used and the person doing the application.  The art of construction (grin)!

I hope you aren’t getting bored with my pet portraits as examples – since I’m a pet photographer, those photos make up the bulk of my image library!  This handsome wirehaired Dachshund presented a charming head study against the black backdrop.  But when I textured up the ‘drop with my 366-17 Stucco (I used VIVID rather than OVERLAY this time), I really loved the juxtaposition of the two contrasting textures – to my eyes, this is a lovely improvement.

Please do post links to projects where YOU have used this provided texture and tell us how you tweaked it to fit your needs.  Feedback is welcomed! All textures are available for personal or commercial use. Jan 12: 366-12 Paper

Oooh!  I am SO excited about today’s texture and tutorial – so very cool!  To start – here’s my free texture for you (and then on to the directions on how to do something similar yourself).  Here’s another Paper Texture to add to your growing collection:

Texture 366-12 Paper

I just LOVE how this turned out!  This is built upon the Paper Texture that was offered to you in my January 8 blog post.  On top of it I used a photo I had on file of a wonderful field of sunflowers that I came across while driving across North Dakota in 2010 (actually – the whole darned state seemed to be nothing but sunflower fields – miles and miles of them – amazing).  Jay Hilgert over at BittBox.com put up this tutorial … it’s so easy to follow and INCREDIBLY AWESOME to boot!  Take a look at it, located at http://www.bittbox.com/photoshop/photoshop-101-how-i-do-it-unique-texture-without-using-brushes .  I will caution you on one thing however … Jay mentions crawling the ‘Net for a cool-looking nebula photo.  PLEASE – if you do this, be sure that the image you lift is one that has given you permission to do that lifting!  Otherwise you are stealing and that is so incredibly NOT cool …   Back to today’s lesson, here is a cutie Dalmatian pup that I used to illustrate using this texturized image as a background.

Please do post links to how you made use of this tutorial – whether you use my new texture image or create your own.  We wanna see them!   Feedback is welcomed.  All textures are available for personal or commercial use. They are NOT allowed to be resold or to be claimed as your own.  Just click through for the larger size file, right-click that one and save the texture to your own computer.  My sample uses of the texture are not available for any use.

Now – if you’ve gone wild with a texture and just LOVE it … a small donation showing that love sure would be appreciated (but is not mandatory).   Just go to PayPal.com and send your donation to DogBreedz (at) yahoo.com.  Happy Texturing!
