Jan 23: 366-23 Tree Trunk

I was fascinated by the tree trunks at the Canyon RV Park.  This one is from the same outing during the Earthdog Trials in Anaheim, October 2011.  I love so much about this one – the smoothness, the texture, the color:  it all works together for me, opening up a world of possibilities for it’s use as a texture overlay in Photoshop (or whichever graphics program you use for your creations).

In using this image, I chose a cute Dachshund from the same event, relaxing on his mom’s lap before his wild run to ground after the rat scent.  I used a soft light at 60% opacity this time.  I think I like how it added just a schootch (technical term, y’know) more interest to the background behind the Doxie’s head.

Jan 22: 366-22 Tree Bark

In October I joined some friends for the Earth Dog Trials at Canyon RV Park in Anaheim.  I had a blast – even before I got to the dogs, I was taking pix.  I don’t know what variety of tree this is, but I loved the rough texture of the bark.  Have fun playing with this one!

Texture 366-22 Tree Bark

A photo that never made the cut for me came to mind (yes I keep some of my junk images – they come in handy during times like this).  Another (yawn)inspiring photo – a beautiful succulent clipping from the garden, photographed with natural light on a dark backdrop.  When I used this Tree Bark Texture (did I mention you can have this for free?) at 70% soft light, it gave a pretty neat effect … almost like I was out in the woods, taking the photo.  I won’t bring up the fact that succulent plants don’t grow in the woods …

366-02 Tree Trunk

I’m looking forward to seeing how YOU use these textures – I know I have a lot to learn still and I have a feeling that your work will inspire me to even greater heights!  Today’s texture is a tree trunk.  I’m not sure what variety of tree this is – but I loved the look of it.

366-02 Texture – TreeTrunk
Here is a very simple use of this texture.  A formal looking portrait of a Scottish Terrier (black on black) has a bit more of interest when the background is slightly “grunged up” with an overlay of Texture 366-02.

I hope you will post links to projects where YOU have used this texture.  Feedback is welcomed! All textures are available for personal or commercial use.  They are NOT allowed to be resold or to be claimed as your own.  If I set this up correctly, you should be able to click through for the larger size file, right-click that one and save the texture to your own computer.  My sample uses of the texture are not available for any use.
