Feb 2: 366-30 The Rose

Valentine’s is around the corner and love is in the air!  I have a lovely oversize rose prop that I’ve been using this year on the studio set.  With this being February, it seemed fitting that it would make an appropriate texture to offer you.

Texture 366:30 The Rose

Now, if you’ve been following along this past month, or you’ve been experimenting yourself, you know that the results of using a texture can have a drastically different feel from the original texture itself.  While the Rose may say “Valentine!” the way I chose to use it says something more like “funky!” or “surreal!”.I opened up a scenic that I took while hiking Mount Ranier in 2008 and cropped it to just a tree top.  The original crop is on the left, below.  With a layer of The Rose texture, setting the layer property to Exclusive, I adjusted the fill to 70% and the saturation of the texture layer to +90 and definitely achieved a completely different look!

Please do post links to projects where YOU have used this provided texture and tell us how you tweaked it to fit your needs.  Feedback is welcomed – leave comments and questions and I’ll see if I can come up with some answers! All textures are available for personal or commercial use. They are NOT allowed to be resold or to be claimed as your own.  Just click through for the larger size file, right-click that one and save the texture to your own computer.  My sample uses of the texture are not available for any use.

Jan 21: 366-21 Sherpa

For today’s texture (and example), here is a lovely sherpa dog bed.  It’s a fitting one to offer today:  it is COLD here and I know any of the dogs would enjoy cuddling up in the bed itself!

Texture 366-21 Sherpa Dog Bed

I had a dog come to the set rockin’ her bling this week (she has more jewelry than I do!).  While I like the composition of this image from the shoot, the actual photo itself is a bit (y)aw(n) inspiring for me.  I don’t know if it’s all that pink, if it’s the softer focus, if it’s the flatness of the pink blanket she’s posed on.  I pulled up  this photo and decided to give the blanket a more plush, luxurious look to match the tone set by the diamonds and pearls.  I used a hard light overlay  and used eraser at 100% over the dog and necklace, 50% in the back between her legs and 10% to the upper right, to heighten the way the light was falling on the scene.  I also used a perspective warp to make the sherpa texture “lay down” into the set.  This still doesn’t make the image one of my best, but it DID achieve my goal!

Jan 20: 366-20 Dog Bed

Here’s another nice fabric texture for your library.  It’s a section of a very pretty dog bed from the kennel.  I love the brown design on the brown background (remember, I love those monochromatic patterns!).

I’m ready for some fun and challenges with these textures!  Here’s the before/after with my friendly Chihuahua model:

Jan 19: 366-19 Rug Back

The kennel manager, Jeri, isn’t a gal to leave a stone – or a rug – unturned.  When she figured out what I was doing prowling the kennel with my camera (and not photographing the dogs!) she rose to the occasion and shotgunned a lot of textures to me!  This is the non-skid backing of the rug featured in yesterday’s Free Texture post.  This is one to get the creative juices really flowing …

Texture 366-19 Rug Back

Now if this doesn’t get you thinking, I hope it’s just an off night for you … we all have those, and then we get right back into the game.  I just used this image of a Boxer puppy in a post at my DogBreedz Photo Blog so it came to mind first as a clean slate to use for today’s texture.  I used the texture in two separate layers and tweaked the hue and saturation in two different directions on each texture layer.  One I kept over the backdrop and the other I used for the white table covering.  I’m a huge fan of the monochromatic color look (white dog on white backdrop) but this gave a great funky look to the image.  One image, two completely different looks!

Hmm …. I wonder how this polkadot texture would look to turn the boxer pup in to a dalmatian wannabe?
