Jan 31: 366-28 Splotch

Yoo Hoo … here I am, over here!  I’ve been MIA for a couple of days while my laptop went wonky on me (a battery doing it’s darndest to overheat, and a smart laptop powering down to avoid major catastrophe in my life).  I’ll be making those lost posts up to you, however – we’ll be ending this year with the intended 366 posts and textures for you – never fear!

Today’s texture is homemade by yours truly, as I followed along with a tutorial from epragt@hotmail.com.  His tute is online at http://home.zonnet.nl/epragt/tutorials/photoshop/texture/gold/index.jsp.htm and is about making a delicate gold texture.  I swear I followed his steps – maybe my start colors were off from his?  Mine wasn’t looking too delicate, so I splotched it up a bit more than he does and decided that made a good name for this one:  Splotch.  Here is my offering to you for today:

Texture 366-28 Splotch

I had recently opened images from a shoot I did with a good-looking Scottish Terrier, so an image of Shelly (the dog) was fresh in my mind.  I grabbed it and layered this texture over it, with a luminosity choice from the layers drop-down menu.  With the opacity lowered to 40%, this gave a look that I liked.  I finished the effect with my burn tool around the edges to give more of a spot-light feel behind the Scottie’s head.

Please do post links to projects where YOU have used this provided texture and tell us how you tweaked it to fit your needs.  Feedback is welcomed – leave comments and questions and I’ll see if I can come up with some answers! All textures are available for personal or commercial use. They are NOT allowed to be resold or to be claimed as your own.  Just click through for the larger size file, right-click that one and save the texture to your own computer.  My sample uses of the texture are not available for any use.

Now – if you’ve gone wild with a texture and just LOVE it … a small donation showing that love sure would be appreciated (but is not mandatory).   Just go to PayPal.com and send your donation to DogBreedz (at) yahoo.com.

Happy Texturing!
